SRO stands for Sport, Recreation & Education and is an organization responsible for managing and operating municipal real estate while promoting sports participation. With over 100 swimming pools, gyms, and sports halls under its management, SRO plays a crucial role in facilitating movement and recreation. Due to the growth of joint ventures, SRO tasked us with redesigning their existing online platform to better meet their current and future needs.

The challenge

Given the large number of sports and recreational facilities, including swimming pools, gyms, and sports halls, a scalable platform was essential. The platform needed to support the management of multiple locations simultaneously while remaining flexible enough to adapt to future objectives and requirements.

A critical technical step was transitioning from a WordPress Multisite environment to a Multi Network structure. This approach allowed existing themes to remain operational while creating space for a new standard theme that can be rolled out more broadly in the future. Additionally, the new setup enables layered site management, facilitating both centralized and decentralized administration. This allows main administrators and local editors to work flexibly across the various facility websites.

The platform also needed seamless integration with systems for point-of-sale and access control, rental management, and student tracking. Automating processes, such as providing Times and Rates through an API, was another key requirement. SRO sought a future-proof system that not only supported their current growth but was also flexible enough to evolve alongside their ambitions.

The result

Our collaboration with SRO delivered immediate impact and laid a strong foundation for the future. The revamped platform not only meets current requirements but also supports SRO’s ambitions for further growth. The initial rollout focused on sports complexes in Amersfoort and Velsen, with plans to expand to other complexes and locations.

Thanks to improved accessibility, including adaptations for users with visual impairments, the platform has become more user-friendly for a wide audience. This has already resulted in increased website traffic and a rise in online registrations for swimming lessons.

Following the launch, administrators were trained to independently manage the platform, giving SRO greater control over the management and content of their websites. What began with a thorough analysis of needs and requirements has culminated in a dynamic and flexible platform that continues to evolve and is ready for future expansion.
